HTML/XHTML Remote Print Server Demo
Powered by Mozilla Gecko and Dynalivery Saffron
Demo v0.998 - March 05, 2008

This demo invokes the Mozilla Gecko renderer as a concurrent, headless server over the Internet. Gecko transforms the relative positions of HTML/XHTML into the absolute coordinates of PostScript, closely reflecting the Print Preview1,2 display in Firefox. This PostScript is read by Dynalivery's Saffron and transformed into PDF, JPEG, AFP, SVG or PS (Microsoft). Office Documents (Doc, Rtf, Sxw, Odt) are transformed to XHTML using Open Office Write Version 2.2.1, after which Mozilla Gecko is used for Rendering XHTML.

You may access the Web Print Service through our free, downloadable add-on component (Help) to Mozilla Firefox 1.5+ browsers or using the web form below.

To appreciate our solution, look at a few web pages in the Print Preview display of both Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Notice the subtle and not-so subtle differences. These differences may be further magnified by server applications printing via yet another layer of HTML or XML renderings.

Normally we would think of browsers as a strictly single user, graphical application. The magic of concurrent Gecko comes from executing it within a framework that Dynalivery has used since 1998 to transform desktop Crystal Reports into a server.

We welcome your feedback and questions at techsupport@dynalivery.com. Partnership inquiries are invited.

Volunteers are also invited to test a remote client version of this demo that performs searches through a very primitive GUI interface.

The Java version communicates with Dynalivery's Web Print Service over a VPN.

The Visual Basic version communicates with Dynalivery's Web Print Service using an HTTP Web Service. It runs on Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, and 2003 PCs with internet access.

Over time, this GUI will become more sophisticated. Its focus now is the application partitioning over the internet.

We are testing the feasibility of a distributed version of Gecko. Potential uses include a client-server version of Thunderbird for email and content filtering.Other potential uses of this technology include database reporting with XSLT 3,4 ; web services (only with permission) for printing PDFs of Corporate web sites or wikis; and the server-side of partitioned microbrowsers.

If interested, please contact us at techsupport@dynalivery.com or download the free Visual Basic version. One fun first use of this software is to select, zoom, clip, and copy images from web pages to your cell phone.

(The Java version requires SSH Sentinel VPN client software on a PC running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP Pro.)

If you would like assistance in building customized web sites that incorporate this web service and effectively turn your website into an instant brochure, please contact Cassara Systems Inc.
